Fauna does not have the facilities or resources to provide rescue or placement services but, realizing that animal welfare programs do not end with spay/neuter, we have developed and maintain collaborative relationships with other animal welfare organizations in our area. These organizations are often inundated with requests though, so you should be prepared to take some initial steps to find a home before calling them. Here are some tips for placing tame kittens or adult cats: First, determine that the kittens/cats are adoptable. Feral cats and kittens are unfriendly to humans. They do not bond easily (if at all) with people and are, therefore, difficult or impossible to adopt. Overly skittish behavior in cats over a few months old, or blatant avoidance of humans are signs that the cat is feral. If you are not sure, call your local vet and discuss the cat's behavior. We recommend TNR for feral cats. Contact Fauna if you need assistance with TNR. Once you have determined a cat is adoptable, i.e. she is friendly, purrs, bonds easily with humans, etc. you might:
If you find someone who is interested in adopted your cat or kitten, be sure that the person is someone you can trust to provide the cat or kitten with regular veterinary care. Either spay/neuter the kitten prior to placement or follow up with the adoptive owner to make sure that spay/neuter is performed after placement. Once you have exhausted these avenues, consider contacting a local cat rescue organization in your area or one of the resources below for assistance.
