Why Spay/Neuter?

Spaying or neutering your pet provides many benefits:

   a. It eliminates the possibility of unwanted puppies and kitten that might be euthanized if enough homes are not found for them

   b. It increases your pet's lifespan and improves overall health by preventing such diseases as ovarian and uterine cancer in females and prostate cancer in males

   c. It improves your pet's temperament - males are less likely to roam or be aggressive and females will not go into heat cycles

The most common objections that people have to spaying or neutering their pet include:

   1. Wanting their pet to have just one litter first.

Contrary to popular opinion, it is actually better to have females spayed before their first heat, as they tend to be healthier animals overall. In addition, there are far too many litters out there that are unwanted or do not have homes.

   2. Afraid that their pet will get fat.

Obesity or other weight concerns are a result of overfeeding and not enough exercise, not spaying or neutering.

   3. Thinking that it is too expensive to spay or neuter.

Many organizations, including Fauna Outreach, offer low-cost alternatives for spay and neuter surgeries.

Pet Overpopulation is a major concern facing many communities today. You can help by spaying or neutering your pet - and your pet will be healthier and happier for it!
